Trying to Get Pregnant, Exercise
Working out while pregnant is beneficial to both you and your future child. Here's how exercise can help you conceive safely, as well as some of the finest pre-pregnancy workouts to attempt.
If you're wondering if exercising while trying to conceive is safe, here's some good news: When you're trying to conceive, getting into a gym regimen and staying active is a significant step in the right direction. After all, exercise is important for overall health and wellness and can aid in the preparation of your body for conception and pregnancy.
If you're trying to conceive, adding a brisk walk to your regular routine may assist, but you might want to put that marathon training on hold.
In a new study evaluating the impact of exercise on fertility, moderate physical activity was found to benefit women of all body types, whereas extreme exercise appeared to increase the time to conception for normal weight, but not overweight, women.
In the study, normal-weight women who exercised intensely five or more hours per week had a 42 percent lower chance of becoming pregnant in any given month than women who did not exercise at all.
The more rigorous the exercise that normal-weight women did, the less likely they were to conceive.
“We were surprised to find that even relatively small amounts of vigorous activity seemed to impact fertility,” says researcher Lauren A. Wise, ScD, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health.
